Korean Traditional Crafts & Architecture
School
Designed to support and nurture craftsmen who can create cultural products using traditional techniques and to teach people of

all ages and backgrounds, to learn and appreciate traditional craft making as a hobby.

Courses
Traditional embroidery, cloth-making, needlework, tie knotting, cloisonne
work, ceramics, otchil (varnishing using urushi lacquer to create a very durable
and glossy finish), somok (making wooden furniture and smaller items), daemok
(house construction), jangseok (metal decorations), changho(making wooden
door), gakja (letter engraving), and dancheong (painting) / One year course,
a weekly three-hour class.

Lecturers : Officially recognized practitioners
of cultural heritage crafts, recognized apprenticeship assistants, craft masters,
and other traditional arts craftsmen

Tuition : 700,000 to 1,740,000 won
Cultural Properties Rehabilitation and Preservation Vocational
School
The expert skills and knowledge required to repair cultural
properties are taught to people engaged in architecture, design,
dancheong, and other

related areas. Apprentices working to obtain
qualification can review and study materials and questions that
may appear on a qualifying exam. As such, the school offers practical
courses that prepare you for exams.

Courses
Korean history, Korean architectural history, Cultural Properties Protection
Act, repair and maintenance (stone/wood), chimok (carving timber
for use in construction), repairing cultural properties, theory
and practical techniques of dancheong, introduction to architecture
and construction, field lectures, etc. / Saturdays, March to June

Lecturers : Senior government officials and experts specializing
in cultural properties, professors, scholars.

Cultural Heritage Training for Teachers

KOUS lives up to its role as an institution specializing in cultural properties
by providing in-depth education in cultural properties and expanding
teachers' potential to provide instruction about cultural properties.
Teachers wishing to learn about traditional culture are also accommodated
for the sake of cultural welfare and public service.
